Dear Freshman Sarah,

Updated: Apr 20, 2021

The next four years are about to go faster than you can even imagine. One day you wake up and are a naive freshman not sure about anything. You worry about how your hair looks and sometimes even put makeup on. You care about school but yet it still manages to be the least of your worries. You worry about making friends, you worry about fitting in and finding your place. That all will change, by the time you are a senior, most of these things will be the least of your worries. Throughout high school, you will start to be more worried about rejection than starting something new. This will lead you to miss out on a lot. As soon as you move forward and start to get over this little fear, amazing things will happen. You will find a place, and maybe even a passion. You will learn things from your classes but also a lot about yourself. At some point you may have a downward spiral, you may lose self-confidence. This is a big part of the journey. You will come out on top of the spiral, you will learn about how to be a confident strong person. You will be able to stand up to those who are wrong. You will become a leader, and you will make some of the best memories. High school is not easy, but that’s okay. You will pull an all-nighter (or many). Coffee may become your new best friend. You will lose friends but gain new ones. You will be challenged but remember to stand strong. Go out with friends, and take chances. If you never try new things then you will never evolve. Go to football games, homecoming, and other school events no matter how stupid you think they are. Don’t let others make fun and get in the way of what you dream. Don’t stop being yourself. Don’t be afraid to laugh with your friends, run in the halls, take hard classes and make memories. Most of all just have fun. You have at most 4 years, and it will go fast. Don’t wish it away because once it’s gone all you will want is to walk from 6th to 7th hour with your best friends again.

Lots of love,

Post senior year Sarah
