"Dreaming, after all, is a form of planning”

I was just scrolling through Pinterest as I tend to do when I procrastinating or looking for some inspiration. As I was completing this scroll, one quote caught my eye. It was short and conscience but full of power. It stated “Dreaming, after all, is a form of planning” and was said to be said by Gloria Steinem.

After seeing these 8 words and reflecting on what they truly mean I realized how powerful dreaming is and the importance behind it. I am someone who loves to have a plan. I find comfort in scheduling, and even schedule a time to complete my weekly schedule (ironic I know). However, I have never thought of the crazy important dreams that I have from time to time to be the start of a plan. Yet, it totally is. I am sitting in Chicago right now writing this because of so many dreams. I just completed a run because of a dream. Every goal achieved started as a dream. In fact, I can think of several current goals that are a part of dreams. If I had not spent the time dreaming, then these plans would not be set in action.

For me, this quote went deeper than a reminder to simply dream. It goes to the idea of mindset. When in a busy rush it is so easy to forget to put ourselves first. We don’t have time to daydream and think about what we want to do. Instead, we have a plan to stick to and have ninety other things to get done before midnight. However, shouldn’t daydreaming be a part of this? Shouldn’t it be one of our top priorities. When time is set aside for planning, shouldn’t dreaming be allowed in that time? This quote just servers as a reminder to prioritize yourself, and schedule time for YOU. Sometimes sitting in stillness and dreaming is the perfect plan. It’s not a waste of time but instead is essential.

Dreaming is such an important aspect, and so valuable. You never know where a dream can take you, and every plan indeed has to come from somewhere. This place is normally a dream. So instead of looking at dreaming as a waste of time, or unimportant it is important to value all dreams and consider them a part of the process. So it’s important to remember the wise words of Gloria Steinem “Dreaming, after all, is a form of planning”.
